PianoEspoo, previously known as Espoo International Piano Festival, is a biennial event organized for the first time in 1991 as the first Finnish festival dedicated solely to piano music. The festival was established on the initiative of the Espoo Cultural Centre. Since 2001 the Espoo Music Festival Association has been the organizer. Professor Erik T. Tawaststjerna and pianist Marita Viitasalo where the festival’s co-artistic directors until 2009 from whence Ms. Viitasalo continued by herself serving in the role. The 14th edition of PianoEspoo takes place in November 2017 and it is led by pianist Paavali Jumppanen who took on the responsibilities as the artistic director in 2015.
Paavali Jumppanen is an internationally renowned pianist, a versatile performer equally at home as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, and a recitalist.
