  • Hanna Aho-Oikkonen

    Hanna Aho has had a long carrier as a faculty member at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Besides being an active performer, she has focused in teaching and its development. Aho gives masterclasses all across Finland and frequently appearing as a jury member She also frequently gives feedback to students at various piano events. At the Sibelius Academy she is an active force in developing new teaching methods. Aho is the institution’s representative and organiser for the Innovative Conservatoire Network and its first seminar, Pilot international programme for teacher collaboration and development in music academies and conservatoires held in Finland. Working with students on piano music is a source of great inspiration and joy to her.

  • Matti Raekallio

    Finnish pianist Matti Raekallio has had a 45-year long career in faculty positions at various top schools, including the Sibelius Academy, the Hochschule in Hanover, Germany, and NYC’s Juilliard School. His students include several first prizewinners in major international competitions. He has performed complete cycles of the piano sonatas of Beethoven, Scriabin, and Prokofiev, as well as altogether 62 piano concertos as orchestral soloist. He has made over 20 CDs, including an acclaimed set of the Prokofiev Sonatas. He regularly serves as a jury member, and gives master classes in the USA, Europe and Asia. Currently he concentrates on free-lance work as teacher, adjudicator, and performing pianist.

  • Matilda Kärkkäinen

    Matilda Kärkkäinen is a versatile pianist with artistic activities ranging from solo piano music to chamber music and lied. She holds a position as chamber pianist at the Sibelius Academy since 2014. Ms. Kärkkäinen has been awarded in many national and international competitions. She has premiered and recorded many Finnish contemporary piano pieces. She has also done recordings for the Finnish National Broadcasting Company. Ms. Kärkkäinen performs regularly at music festivals in Finland. She has also performed widely internationally. In May 2022 she was one of the five pianists in the international Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. In 2017 Ms. Kärkkäinen finished her doctoral studies, focusing on the multi-faceted nature of piano sonata.

  • Helga Karen

    Pianist Helga Karen has specialized in performance of classical contemporary music. She has performed on new music festivals such as Lucerne Festival, SoundScape, Musica Nova, ISA2015, and Stockhausen Courses and Concerts. Ms. Karen has premiered works for both piano solo and chamber ensembles. She is a member of new music Earth Ears Ensemble. Ms. Karen has worked with composers including Helmut Lachenmann and Rebecca Saunders. She has had organizational roles such as curator of Daniel Barenboim’s educational program for children and youth and as co-producer for the Lucerne Festival Forward. Currently she is a doctoral student at the Sibelius Academy working on her research project exploring Stockhausen's piano piece.

  • Annika Hautamäki-Hänninen

    Pianist and pedagogue Annika Hautamäki-Hänninen holds a position as lecturer in piano at the Tampere Conservatory. She serves as vice-chairman of the board for the Tampere Piano Society. The society organizes Tampere piano summer courses, the Pirkanmaa Piano Festival, and the nationally significant Tampere piano competition for professional students. As a pedagogue, Annika Hautamäki-Hänninen works with pupils of all ages. She graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 2006 studying under professor Matti Raekallio. She also holds a degree in Music pedagogy from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

  • Justas Stasevskij

    Justas Stasevskij teaches at the Kuopio Conservatory and is a chamber music pianist at the Sibelius Academy. He has also thought at the Espoo Music Institute. Stasevskij frequently appears as a chamber musician and lied pianist. His graduated from the Sibelius Academy his teachers being Erik T. Tawaststjerna, Teppo Koivisto, and Antti Siirala. In the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna Stasevskij studied under the guidance of Avedis Kouyoumdjian and Christopher Hinterhuber. Stasevskij has also worked as a foreign affairs reporter for the Finnish Broadcasting Company.

  • Peter Lönnqvist

    Peter Lönnqvist has been a faculty member at the Lahti Conservatory since 1992. Lönnqvist is especially known for his piano transcriptions, arrangements and compositions, which have been performed worldwide. In 2012 pianist Laura Mikkola premiered at the Iitti music festival his transcription of ”Cantus arcticus” by Einojuhani Rautavaara. In 2021 Breitkopf&Härtel published a four hand version of Sibelius’ tone poem Tapiola which he had reconstructed from the manuscripts by Einar Englund. He has performed as soloist premiering the piano concerto by Harri Ahmas and the seldom heard Piano concerto by Sergei Kulanko. Lönnqvist has made recording to the Finnish Broadcasting Company. He appears frequently as a piano duo with Folke Gräsbeck and Kyoko Fukushi.

  • Irina Zahharenkova

    Irina Zahharenkova performs as pianist, fortepianist, and harpsichordist. The range of instruments have led her naturally to music from different eras. Born in Estonia, Irina Zahharenkova is a sought-after festival guest, chamber musician, and soloist of many orchestras’. She has performed at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr and Mendelssohn Festival, and as soloist with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been reworded in multiple competitions. Being successful in the International Bach Competition in Leipzig and the Prague Spring Competition has led to numerous performance invitations. Irina Zahharenkova has a widening discography including recordings of Mozart’s sonatas and J.S. Bach’s partitas.
